Billy Heathcote's Obituary

Billy Heathcote

It is with great sadness that the Northern Border Fancy Canary Club, and High Spen and District CBS reports the death of long standing member Billy Heathcote of Dunston, Tyne and Wear. Billy was the President of the Northern Border FCC. He also served as steward for the Northern Border and High Spen and District CBS for many years.

Billy attended meetings of the clubs when he was well enough to do so and was a great supporter of the Border Canary in the North East. He was a very well respected panel judge and judged at almost all of the Border Specialist shows. over the years. He was very highly thought of by fanciers throughout the British Isles. Billy first exhibited Border Canaries in the early 1980’s and has supported the Border Fancy tirelessly ever since, either by exhibiting, judging, stewarding, being ably assisted by his partner and son Paul.

Billy had many friends in the fancy and they will no doubt be sad to hear of his passing. I know the fancy will be poorer for the loss of his birds, his experience and his presence.

The partnership of B & P Heathcote won many specialist shows over the years, in fact almost all of them, the one in which they were unlucky not to win was the British Border in which they were second at least 4 times. Billy always turned out a good team of birds for the fancy to admire and made it a better show for the clubs involved.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Cath and son Paul and Maureen and all other family members and all of his friends throughout the Border World.
