  2. West Wales will hold its next meeting at the Morriston Rugby Club on Monday11th September 2017at 7-30pm. After the meeting there will be a short talk by Ron Palfreyman and Graham Pearce on How the club started and if possible find a solution of attracting new members to the club.. In the begining which was the most difficult in forming the club we used to have over 30 regular members and now the numbers are diminishing. At this meeting we will consider targetting schools with the posibility of getting new members. There are plenty of bird lovers out there but we must find an interest for them to attend meetings etc. If we had enough members especially juniors we could possibly consider having some extra shows for beginers and children. If any member has any ides their views would be greatly appreciated.

We are all thinking about you Ritchie and dont worry your Borders are in good hands .The schedule has now been completed and will go to the printers this week.As usual we have an outstanding specials list with btop judges. We at West Wales hope we will get the support from fanciers all over the country as we have all the fascilities, and an outstanding show hall, with ample parking on site. This show will be a Memorial show for Raymond Thomas and Betty Aldous

  4. The meeting for August 17th has been cancelled and the meeting brought forward to Monday 7th August 2017 at Morriston Rugby Club at 7-30pm. Sorry for the change but it is unavoidable , The Secretary wishes to complete the schedule and get it to the printers as soon as possible .We hope to name the Judges for 2018 show to be included in the schedule .. .. If any member wishes to forward articles, reports, and news for the journal then they can pass it on and I will do it for you, as you may not have the necessary computers etc..Already some member have forwarded their own photos taken at last years show so the West Wales should be well represented on the image section.
The club wish to thank Ron Palfreyman for all his valued service to the club as, he has decided to finish as the President on the expiring date of office July 2017.Ron along with myself are the last TWO remaining FOUNDER MEMBERS OF THE WEST WALES CLUB . However Ron will still remain a member of the committee and his knowledge is very important to the running of the club.. The New President is our Chairman of nearly 25 years Richard Edwards another outstanding member,,together with his wife Brenda, they have been loyal hard working members all these years The President elect is Mr Phil Hitchings a committee man of many years and will continue in the same mould as our previous Presidents..

  6. On behalf of the west wales bfcc I wish to sympathise with our secretary Bert Aldous and his family on the passing of a lovely ,honest and trustworthy lady Mrs Betty Aldous on 18th May 2017. Betty was a great supporter of he husband Bert in all his many activities in the Swansea area. She was always a regular at all our functions and supported our show with her children. Betty was a pleasant lady always polite and was always willing to help Bert with his duties for the club . We all know it is a very difficult time for any wife during the show week with all the telephone calls requesting information. I can assure all friends that Betty NEVER let our club down and her manerism was of the heighest degree, when dealing with some difficult situations regarding our club. At this time Bert needs all the support from his family ,friends and the members of the West Wales Border Club. This club has over the last few years lost many dedicated and loyal people and Betty is one we shall never forget as it is another sad day for all.

  7. The next meeting of the WEST wales Border will take place at Morriston Rugby club on May8th at 7-30 pm. Please will every member make an effort to attend as the club will be discussing the programme for this year which includes the shows they will be attending and the method of transport. The club is also considering having special evenings this year with a guest speaker. If there are any interested fanciers willing to give their services for the evening please would they contact me as soon as possible. It is obvious that the numbers are dramatically falling in the Border World and we are fast becoming the "other any variety canary in the local shows" There are plenty of Border canary men in the area but they dont show . We would love get these fanciers involved with our club. We still have one of the best halls in the country with all the facilities for fanciers wives and friends . Wr would love to get our Dinner Dance back on the road so that it would encourage fanciers to enjoy a wonderful week end in West Wales. If we can get the support we will then be in a position to organise a function. Meeting friends new and old is part of our hobby . Our show was a success last year but we are determined to improve the numbers in 2017. We will have a specials list of the highest quality due to the continued support of our sponsors. We have TWO GOOD CLUBS in Wales and we wish to keep it going in the right direction---The top Shows. Dont forget the date 8th MAY 2017 Meeting at Morriston Rugby club and try to bring along some new friends. Graham Pearce

  9. It was with great saddness that we at West Wales hear of the passing of a great friend . He was in partnership with his loyal friend Ron Measures. They showed together for many years and during that time we were fortunate that he was always a great supporter of our club. Ron was delighted that he was the first winner of the John Williams Memorial Trophy for best Cinnamon Variegated , a moment he treasured. Ron gave up birds a few years ago but I,m sure his memory will live in the hearts of many people. Wen will all miss his presence at the show as he was a very likable ,lovable gentleman. We at west wales send our deepest sympathy to all of Johns family and to his faithful and loyal partner John Measures. The show will never be the same with out you. We will certainly miss your regular and loyal support and the border world have lost another honourable gentleman .
God Bless your dear family in these difficult times.

  12. Well done West Wales on a great show. Also will the judge who wrote FIFE on the cage label of a champion breeder and exhibitor at the show be sanctioned by the BC. Fair play to the West Wales committee for removing the offensive label and replacing it.

  13. SO sad to hear the passing of a good friend over many years. He was a great competitor and i have many wonderful memories regarding our competition against each other . Hughie was a great sportsman and would always shake your hand immaterial of the results. He was loved and much appreciated by everyone in the Border canary fancy. I personally will never forget our happy times together when competing on the show bench. He is going to be missed by many people especially his wife ,children and his much admired Grandchildren.I was very fortunate to have know a honest, loyal and devoted man who I will remember for the rest of my life . 16. The world of Borders will mourn the passing of that great man Charlie Norfield.I was to become the next president of the West Wales club but I decided that I never deserved that hponour and that Charlie would have been the perfect gentleman for the the position .The decission was unanimous and the west wales have never looked back since he accepted the Presidency .My friend J.S.Williams spent many an hour discussing ideas to make the club with a progressive attitude. We had all the support from the members especially our Chairman Ritchie Edwards and the rest is history. He loved our club and I know that he was also spreading the gospel with friends he introduced us to from South Africa ,who on that day were wearing the west wales sweaters. His book "A lifetime with Border canaries" is a Bible for all border enthusiasts. and to this day I have a copy in the shed .Whenever I made that long journey to Twickenham to see Charlie we always had a wonderful welcome from his charming lady and a well laid out tea before we set home . He always watched the clock, and had shown us a way of reaching the m25 without out getting caught in the heavy traffic.God Bless you Charlie you are a man in a million and you are going to be missed throughout the WORLD.

  18. West Wales BFCC are saddened to report the death of Les Davies of Ammanford following a long and painful illness. Prior to ill health Les was an active member, treasurer, life member and in the year 2006 was nominated President Elect of the club he loved.

A skilled Stonemason/bricklayer by trade Les was employed as a lecturer and teacher at a Government Training College for building trades specialising in stonemasonary, bricklaying, and quantity estimating. Although having been without birds for some time he always enjoyed reminicing about the old days especially the social side and meeting up with old friends at the Open events.

Condolences go out to his family.

  21. Mrs Glenys Thomas

Members of the West Wales Border F.C.C. were sadden by the news of the death of Glenys, widow of the late Dai (Curly) Thomas the Welsh Wizard of the Border Fancy.
Glenys although not directly involved with the breeding or exhibiting of canaries was a staunch supporter of the West Wales Club, and a real friend to all fanciers.
There was always a kettle on the boil ready to offer a cup of tea and a biscuit to Dai's many friends and visiting fanciers, of which there were many.
Glenys was nominated to become a life member of the club, a position she held for more than fifteen years, Condolences go out to the family daughter Judith and sons, Richard and Rowland.

Just a thought, not discussed with anyone else yet. Do we have a “roll of honour”, do we want or need one?? Perhaps a discussion topic for the April Meeting.

Once more wishing you all the best

    Ian Perrier Secretary/Treasurer

  12. Meeting calendar for 2013-14

Firstly I hope that you’re progressing well with the breeding season, but given the totally awful weather it’s a wonder that the birds even consider presenting us with offspring.

Anyway the purpose of this communication is to advise of the dates of meetings and shows for this season. They are as follows:

June 2nd British Legion Hall Bartley

Meeting commences sharp at 10:00 and to be followed by a film show and talk by Terry Sayers.

August 18th Visit to our “western” colleagues, no they’re not “cowboys”!! they live to the west of our catchment area!

Times and venues to be agreed at June 2 meeting.

September 29th Young Stock Show at Copythorne birds will be judged by Colm Southern from Ireland!!

Whilst judging is in progress we will hold a general meeting.

October 19th 29th Open Show to be held at the normal Portchester venue.

Please note that we will erect staging from 19:00 and Ian Candy would like as much help as possible.

Judges, Dennis Reed, Chris Davies, Mark Symonds and Martin Drew, a top team so let’s give them something to judge!!

December 1st Social meeting (? pub Lunch) to be discussed at the September meeting

    2014

January show, date to be confirmed, either 1st or 2nd Sunday.

February 16th AGM to perhaps include another talk, speaker to be discussed and agreed.

We had a very successful year in 2012 and therefore let’s build on that, the “Wessex” is known in the fancy for the smooth running and friendly atmosphere and this is achieved by the excellent team spirit which we display.

Looking forward to seeing you at as many of these events as you can manage.

Wishing you all a successful season, it’s not too late yet!!
