John Hocknull

John was born and lived on the Isle of Wight although for most of his working life he was in the Navy or Merchant Navy. He says he used to spend 3 weeks at sea and 3 weeks at home. When he was away his wife used to look after the birds. Until recently John still used to work as overnight maintenance on Wightlink Ferries, he loved the involvement and camaraderie.

John was married to Val and they had a son Steven and daughter Angie as well as a grandson Harrison. Our sincere and heart felt sympathies are with them and their immediate families at this very sad time.

John was always an industrious person and whilst at home, supposedly on leave, he used to work for the family firm delivering coal.
He showed for a while in partnership with Bill Locke and they were well respected for their clear birds. Many will remember John, he was not an outgoing person, but a truer club man you would could not find. He was a kind, generous, well-mannered man who didn’t have a bad word in his head or a bad bone in his body.

The Wessex Border Club will be the worse for his passing, he will also be missed by his many friends in the hobby. He was a true friend, a stalwart and perhaps best summed up as a true GENTLEMAN!! At just 74 years of age a very sad passing.
