Raymond Thomas Llanelli West Wales

I wish to report that West Wales have lost another outstanding member of the club. Ray after a long illness passed away on Tuesday 23rd May 2017.Ray was a quiet ma but was appreciated and loved by everyone associated with the Border Canary..Together with his wife he travelled the country exhibiting in all the top shows. Ray kept Borders many years ago and due to pressure of work he had to leave the hobby. However he was delighted when he had the opportunity to return to his beloved Borders a few years ago. It did not take him long to establish an excellent l stud of Borders winning at the specialist shows and also he never forgot his local C.B.S shows in his locality. He was obviously aiming for the top and from the show results it was coming near. with the quality of his stud he was capable of holding his own with the very best and the champion classes were waiting for his arrival .He was determined to get to the top and worked extremely hard to provide his own line of Borders.
Ray was born in Aberystwyth Mid Wales and later moved to his much loved home in Llanelli and was a great supporter of the famous Scarletts Rugby team. We often had some good fun when the Ospreys rugby side played the Scarllets in the Welsh game of the year.
Ray was a builder by trade and he was very well known amongst the craftsmen in the vicinity as he was a true professional , producing work of the highest degree as a plasterer. This is one of the hardest trades in the building Industry. He was greatly appreciated in the community he served for many, many years.
However later in life he decided to go into the farming Industry but also kept to his building skills as a plasterer. He became a breeder of the famous WELSH BLACK Cattle Again he was very successful breeding some excellent cattle, which he showed around the country and at the top shows including the great Royal Welsh where he gained some wins. This was the pinnacle of his farming career. Later on in life his Welsh Blacks were well known, and good Bull was breed for the breeder, from this fine herd of cattle. It was evident that Ray was a very good stock man, and he took this knowledge with him into his next hobby the Border Canary. However due to an illness Ray had to sell all his top Pedigree herd of Welsh Blacks and that must have been a sad period in his life. Knowing his character he fought back but this time with the Border Canary. During this period he had the full support of his loyal and faithful wife who accompanied to all the local and distant shows.
We all know he will be missed by his loyal and faithful wife Raybeth ,their children, grandchildren ,inlaws, his brothers and all other faithful members of this family.

We at WEST WALES BORDER CLUB are also going to miss him. Although he was ill. he never stood back from work, especially on the day of the show .He was always willing to encourage people into the hobby and has actually persuaded his brother Wyn to start with Border Canaries. He would have become a good Ambassador for the club as he was determined for the club to progress into the future. We have lost an excellent Border man who was fully supportive to the Hobby and the club he served with distinction .
Again our sympathy to RAYBETH AND HER FAMILY at their sad loss. God Bless you all
Goodnight our friend, we will all miss you at the meetings and the show
